If you're struggling with the yips in golf, you know how frustrating and demoralising it can be. That complete loss of control—usually in your dominant hand—which feels like a nightmare that keeps coming back again and again.
One of the first questions I hear is, “Will my yips go away for good?” Obviously that's the main goal - not just to fix the yips temporarily, but to say goodbye forever!
Can You Cure the Yips Permanently?
My answer is usually, “Most probably, yes!” But I can’t give a definitive answer until we assess where your technique is at and how your mindset currently is.
From my own experience, after suffering with the yips for 2–3 years, I was able to eliminate them completely within two months by working on the right combination of mental strategies and technical adjustments. My yips were totally gone.
However, for some golfers, lingering "scar tissue" in their mind can leave them vulnerable, and their yips may come back down the line. That’s why I ensure that every client has the tools to maintain good technique, and a strong, resilient mindset. This is absolutely crucial. If previous bad habits creep back in tehcnically, they can trigger manipulations and compensations in your stroke, which facilitates issues with your mindset, reopening the door - and the yips can just waltz right back in.
But if you know the signs, and you know yourself and your technique well enough, you'll know what to do and what to work on to stop the yips returning. To stop them in their tracks.
